Bicentenary Flower Festival–The Event of The Year

Categories: News

St. Andrew’s Church Bicentenary Flower Festival, “The Good News in Flowers”, took place over the weekend 9-11 June. Christopher White, judge, demonstrator and exhibitor, a former Gold Medal winner at the Chelsea Flower Show, directed the festival and was the driving force overseeing and planning all aspects of the floral displays.                                        Flower arrangers from Ireland and UK gave of their time and talents in meticulously setting up the various displays, which were dedicated to loved ones no longer with us.

The event was formally opened on Friday afternoon by Joanna Donnelly, meteorologist in Met Eireann. Over the 3 day period, many people from near and far visited the church, to view the excellent floral displays and to avail of refreshments in the Parish Centre.

The festival ended on Sunday evening with a Choral Evensong in the church, sung by the choir of Christ Church Cathedral.

The event was an outstanding success in every way, not just in the amount of funds it raised in excess of €17,000 for the organ project, but more importantly in terms of the numbers of our people who were involved in it.

It really was a united, joyful celebration and joint effort by all concerned.
