Ash Wednesday – the beginning of the 40 days of Lent – is on March 5th this year and there will be a short Service of Compline in St Marnock’s Chapel at 7.30pm.
Last year, during four Wednesday evenings in Lent, a series of Night Prayer Services were held in the Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic Churches in Malahide and Portmarnock and a similar programme is planned for this year.
The theme of this year’s series is Faith and Me and speakers will reflect on an aspect of their life that gives practical expression to their Christian faith.
Wednesday 12th March in St Sylvester’s Church, Malahide
Wednesday 19th March St Anne’s Church, Portmarnock
Wednesday 26th March Sacred Heart Church, Yellow Walls
Wednesday 2nd April St Andrew’s Church
The speaker in St Andrew’s will be Professor Pat Barker who will talk about her work with Malawi Girls’ Education Fund of which she is Chairperson.
The Malawi Girls Education fund is a registered Irish charity (CHY No. 19918) which works with St. Mary’s Secondary School in Zomba, Malawi to support girls through their secondary education. The Fund was established in 2011 by a group of friends and colleagues some of whom have worked in Malawi, and all of whom have a strong interest in supporting the education of girls.
All services start at 7.30pm and each evening will conclude with refreshments served.
