Confirmation Service in St. Andrew’s

Categories: News

Friday 7th October was certainly a night to remember for our 19 confirmation candidates who packed St Andrew’s Church to overflowing with their parents, godparents, families and friends.

It was great to see a good number of our own parishioners present too to offer their support.

The Archbishop spoke to the candidates about three Cs – Confirm, Commit and Connect.

He said: “Your confirming has gathered us all together to congregate with you in the presence of God. Your developing and growing belief in yourself comes to meet your developing and growing belief in God.

“It is called experience and it is a wonderful thing for you to speak it out…And that belief in God will change as you yourself change and as your experiences of life and of other people change too. Do not panic. Please believe that the unseen God is and will be with you particularly when seeing a way through is hard.

“Trust in the Spirit when you find it hard to trust in yourself.”

The Archbishop urged the candidates to be kind to themselves.

“You are the generation coming our of COVID-19 and as Greta Thunberg says: Nobody is too small to make a difference. The difference in our attitude to commitment can start with you and it can start with recognizing that you are worth a great deal.

“Do your best, try your best but most of us believe the best of yourself.”

The newly confirmed received their First Holy Communion from The Rector on Sunday 9th October.

Candidates are reminded that their Confirmation Certificates are now available from the Church.
