St. Andrew’s Church Malahide– Emergency Restoration Appeal

Categories: News

Midway through 2019 we encountered unexpected serious structural problems at St. Andrew’s Church Malahide, with a health and safety impact, that required us to close the church for worship. We commenced a programme to remedy the defects, which lasted six months in total. The problems were initially manifested by  19th century plasterwork becoming detached from walls and ceilings at irregular intervals.

The Select Vestry appointed a contractor specialising in restoration work on old buildings, to carry out a work programme involving stripping and re-plastering of the walls in the nave and refurbishing  all ceiling areas of the church.

The work programme, costing in excess of €80,000 was completed in early 2020.

As a result of this totally unplanned expenditure, we now find ourselves in considerable debt.

We have embarked on several initiatives to reduce the debt, some of which are now non practical to implement as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

We are now appealing to the community at large for support.

If you feel that you can assist us with a donation, please make contact by email as detailed at the bottom of the website page. We would be forever indebted for your kindness and generosity during these challenging and unprecedented times.

Thank you
