IDEAS FORUM——-AN UPDATE

Categories: News

At the 2014 Easter Vestry meeting, parishioners requested an opportunity to air views. As a result the Select Vestry set up an Ideas Forum Committee to seek views and suggestions from Parishioners.

Thirty people attended a forum on 23th October. In addition 21 written submissions were received, hence circa 10% of total households in the parish gave an input.

Views and suggestions were sought and received under the following headings: Worship; Youth; Social; Buildings; Other, including Ecumenical; Parish Mirror; Volunteering; Charitable Giving.

Parishioners clearly statedWe need to have services, programmes and activities that our people want to be involved in now and into the future.

People want us to communicate well, increase awareness, enable people to express their spirituality and care for our society – all in a welcoming way.

Concern was expressed as to where our parish is going.

People want our parish to survive and grow.

Very constructive ideas and suggestions were identified under all headings.

The findings of the Ideas Forum were presented to the Select Vestry at the December meeting. It was agreed to address the following itemsover the coming months.

 Action Plans

    • To develop a draft parish plan this will be presented to Parishioners at the Easter Vestry on the 12th April 2015 for their input. The findings of the Forum will be used to inform the plan.
    • To establish a worship working group with specific terms of reference and boundaries to work with the Rector to enhance and encompass worship for all ages in the church (e.g. services, hymns etc).  We are seeking ‘Expressions of Interest’ from everyone both young and not so young who would like to join this working group.

    • To communicate clearer and in new ways – to start to use Twitter, Facebook, etc.
    • To develop PR which clearly states “who we are; what we do”?
    • To continue to review our Youth Work and develop a new plan for 2015.
    • To plan Parish Social Events. It is a great way for everyone to get to know each other.  To do this we need to revitalise the Social Committee.  We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers for the Social Committee.
